- Woven with colorful polyester blend thread
- Festooned with handmade pom poms
- Comfortable woven handle and drawstring
These bags are handmade by women of the Wayuu indigenous tribe in Northern Colombia, and take 2-4 weeks to weave. Weaving is central to the Wayuu culture, taught to them by the legendary spider, Walekeru and passed down with pride from generation to generation. The Wayuu live in the Guajira, a desert peninsula where they were once self sustaining. Climate change has limited their ability to raise livestock and grow crops, and they now rely on the sale of their woven products as their main source of income. Tambo Artes is committed to fair trade and to bringing you the finest examples of this art and a piece of their culture.
